What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, known in medical literature as "nasal surgery," is a surgical procedure performed to change the shape, size or functions of the nose. It is preferred to eliminate aesthetic concerns such as a dorsal hump, wide or bulbous tip, asymmetries, or breathing difficulties caused by a deviated septum.

Dr. Efendioğlu performs both open and closed rhinoplasty techniques, selecting the approach based on each patient's individual anatomy and the complexity of the case. He also specialises in piezo (ultrasonic) rhinoplasty, which uses ultrasonic energy to precisely sculpt bone without damaging surrounding soft tissue — resulting in less bruising and faster recovery.

Who Gets Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is suitable for individuals who are dissatisfied with the appearance or function of their nose and have completed facial growth (typically from age 17–18 onwards). Common reasons include:

• A dorsal hump or bump on the nose bridge
• A wide, bulbous or drooping nasal tip
• A crooked or asymmetrical nose
• Breathing difficulties due to a deviated septum
• Overly large or small nostrils
• Disproportionate nose size relative to the face
• Dissatisfaction with results from a previous rhinoplasty (revision)

Rhinoplasty Techniques

• Open rhinoplasty — a small incision at the base of the columella allows full visualisation; preferred for complex cases
• Closed rhinoplasty — all incisions inside the nostrils, no external scarring; suitable for less complex cases
• Piezo / Ultrasonic rhinoplasty — bone work performed with ultrasonic instruments for greater precision and minimal bruising
• Ethnic rhinoplasty — preserves ethnic characteristics while achieving the patient's aesthetic goals
• Revision rhinoplasty — corrects unsatisfactory results from previous surgery

Recovery After Rhinoplasty

A nasal splint is worn for approximately 7 days post-operatively. Most patients return to social activities within 10–14 days. Swelling gradually resolves over 3–6 months, with the final result visible at approximately 12 months. Bruising around the eyes typically fades within 2 weeks.
